Netflix’s top-secret new movie about the end of the world might have the best cast we’ve ever seen

Rory Cashin

It is the end of the world as we know… and this cast seems more than fine.

Writer and director Adam McKay knows how to put a great cast together.

He mostly got our attention when he wrangled Will Ferrell, Steve Carrell, and Paul Rudd for Anchorman, and then continued to unite amazing comedic actors for more his movies like Talladega Nights, Step Brothers, and The Other Guys.

When he ventured into drama territory with The Big Short, not only did McKay win an Oscar for his screenplay, but he also amassed Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Steve Carrell for the project.

With his new movie Don’t Look Up, it seems like he’s purposefully trying to out-do himself in the cast stakes.

As far as the plot goes, this is all we know for sure:

“A pair of astronomers try to warn everyone on Earth that a giant meteorite will destroy the planet in six months.”

Oh, and that it will be a comedy.

So who will be playing that pair of astronomers? None other than Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Just two of the most in-demand performers in the world, with no less than ten Oscar nominations and two Oscar wins between them.

That is impressive, you might be thinking, but they alone don’t constitute that headline. And you’re right. Here are their co-stars:

  • Meryl Streep
  • Jonah Hill
  • Cate Blanchett
  • Timothee Chalamet
  • Ariana Grande
  • Matthew Perry
  • Kid Cudi
  • Himesh Patel

Yep, this movie’s cast list is not messing around!

There is no set release date for the movie yet, but considering it hasn’t actually gone into production yet, we’re betting it won’t arrive on Netflix before the other end of 2021.
