Nicola Coughlan accidentally ‘stabbed’ her Bridgerton castmate on first day of filming

Everyone is susceptible to wardrobe malfunctions, including woman of the hour Nicola Coughlan who had a bit of a mare on her first day of filming Bridgerton… ultimately leading to her ‘stabbing’ one of her castmates.

One of the guests of honour on This Morning, the Irish actress joined hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby via video chat. On to promote her new Netflix show Bridgerton, Nicola answered some of the duo’s most burning questions – even telling of a wardrobe faux pas that saw the Galway woman accidentally ‘stab’ one of her castmates. Yes, really.

Agreeing that the costumes were “a bit of a challenge” more for some than others, Nicola said that a tight corset, combined with a pair of high heels meant that she essentially had “no central strength” and ended up toppling over quite a few times. Add a parasol to the mix and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.

“It became pretty evident pretty quickly on my first day that I couldn’t walk in these heels… I fell over three times and on the third time, I was carrying a parasol, which you know, held in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon. So, I fell forward really quickly and stabbed Claudia Jessie in the hand and it drew blood. And that was my first day.”

Don’t worry though – all was forgiven and they’re still friends. Take that as a warning against heels, corsets and parasols though… yet another reason to stick to our current uniform of loungewear and pyjamas.

As for series two? They’re still waiting for the go-ahead from Netflix but Nicola said she’s “hopeful” which is good enough for us.
