One of Ireland’s most iconic comedy festivals is going ahead this year!

Fiona Frawley

Ah, we’re only delighted about this one.

If you’re an Irish comedy fan, you’ll know the Cat Laughs festival in Kilkenny well. Every year for the June Bank Holiday weekend Kilkenny City is transformed into a comedy hub that has helped launched the careers of some of Ireland’s favourite comics, and welcomed some pretty impressive international names too.

So we’re buzzing to hear the festival will make a gentle return this month, with outdoor performances and a truly unreal line up of Irish comics.

From household names like Des Bishop, Jason Byrne and Deirdre O’ Kane to rising online lockdown stars like Shane Daniel Byrne and Julie Jay, there’s something for everyone on this lineup. If you’re a comedy podcast lover there’ll be a live recording of The Substantial Meal with Martin Angolo, Justine Stafford and Dermot Ward and for film buffs, Dream Gun Film Reads will be doing one of their hilarious reenactments, this time of Shawshank Redemption. All gigs will take place outdoors at Langtons Courtyard, socially distanced and all the rest.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, so just enough time to creep on the line up and decide what you’ll be getting tickets for! Treat, and I can’t stress this enough, yourself.
