It recently picked up Best Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes.
Winner of dozens of awards already, including Best Picture and Best Director at the Golden Globes, and sure to sweep up at the nominations for the Academy Awards, Nomadland is one of the best-reviewed movies of recent years.
The film tells the story of Fern (two-time Oscar-winner Frances McDormand), who, following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad.
Co-starring David Strathairn (Good Night and Good Luck), and real-life actors Swankie, Bob Wells and Linda May, the movie is written and directed by Chloe Zhao, who recently became only the second woman to win Best Director at the Golden Globes, and the first Asian woman to do so.
The movie had been doing the festival circuit for some of 2020 during the pandemic, and while initially due for release in December, it had to be delayed due to coronavirus.
However, Disney have announced that the movie – which is sitting pretty with a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 93% on Metacritic – will now be debuting on their recently-launched Star platform on Disney+, free of charge for those who already have a subscription.
Nomadland is due to arrive on Disney+ on Friday, April 30, and will then arrive in cinemas once they’re allowed to safely reopen.
