One Of The Highest-Rated Irish Movies Ever Is On TV Tonight

James Fenton

Looking for a great movie to watch this Sunday night? Look no further.

TV3 is airing 2002 Irish drama The Magdalene Sisters and if you’ve never seen it you’re missing out a movie which holds a 90% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes to this day.

The harrowing film tells the story of three teenage girls who are sent to the Magdalene Asylums in the 1960s. From there we get a glimpse of the unimaginable horror the victims suffered at the hands of priests and nuns and the facilities.

The themes of The Magdalene Sisters are very close to home and while it is often an uncomfortable watch, it’s one of those movies that needs to be seen to understand one of the most negative aspects of Irish history.

You’ll be screaming at the TV at times but you certainly won’t forget it in a hurry. The Magdalene Sisters gets underway at 9pm on TV3. You can get a taster in the trailer below.
