Our favourite reactions to the unveiling of the new Garda uniforms

Fiona Frawley

You’ve probably seen the blue and highlighter yellow of the new Garda “collection” all over your Twitter and Instagram feeds for the past day or so.

Ever since Richard Chambers shared the first pictures on Twitter yesterday (we can always rely on him to keep us in the know, tg) many of us had questions – who are these Garda models? Why are the uniforms being promoted as if they’re going to be on sale to the public? When will Anna Wintour release an official statement regarding the launch? Despite the confusion, the memes and reviews of an Garda Síochána’s new jackets, aertexes and bike gear have been free flowing and plentiful. Here are some of our absolute favourites:

Hot takes so good, we had to share both of them. First, the indisputable whiff of Middle Aisle off the new aertexes, followed of course by the Balenciaga vibes from the new double zip jacket situation. Stellar feedback from the O’Connel Street Londis page.

James Kavanagh’s floating head reviews

James is back at it again, but instead of reviewing the inside of your fridge or your Christmas dinner, he’s offering his two cents in response to the Guards new lewks. Tens across the board.

Head over to his stories for a more detailed breakdown. Does the soul good.

To be fair, the likeness is uncanny.

Meanwhile, on Twitter –

The Paw Patrol fandom was out in full force.

The Trekkies of Twitter picked up on a distinct Starship Enterprise vibe off the new uniforms.

And former Garda and Rose of Tralee Brenda Hyland Beirne said the new fits were a “huge step in the right direction”. And in the fashion world, a Rose’s endorsement is huge.

I won’t lie, seeing a Rose of Tralee speak about the uniforms on the national news broadcaster had me falling over myself to check Marty Whelan’s Twitter – surely the fashion god of the Irish airwaves would have something to say following the big reveal? As of yet, he hasn’t commented but let me just say this: If I see Marty Whelan wearing a double zip fluoro Garda jacket, I’ll go out and buy a double zip fluoro Garda jacket.
