Paul Mescal’s newest project ‘The Deceived’ coming to Irish tellies next month

Originally airing over in the UK on Channel 5, Virgin Media has confirmed that the much-anticipated The Deceived will come to Irish tellies next month – keeping us all happy with a double bill on September 7th.

The Deceived is a new thriller series, brought to us by the creator of Derry Girls, writer Lisa McGee and her husband Tobias Beer. Starring man of the hour Paul Mescal, Virgin Media has confirmed that the series will be hitting Irish tellies next month –  with things kicking off with a two-episode special.

Described as a ‘compelling, sinister narrative of lust, manipulation and betrayal’, the four-part drama was filmed in Belfast and tells the story of English student Ophelia (played by Emily Reid), who falls in love with her married lecturer. Taking centre stage on the channel’s jam-packed Autumn schedule of entertainment, Mescal plays Sean a volunteer firefighter who discovers the body of a famed novelist called Róisín.

Already airing over in the UK, the mini-series has had mostly positive reviews so far, with people’s biggest grievance seeming to be that Mescal doesn’t feature near enough throughout. Other famous faces to lend their talents to the project include Emmet Scanlon of Peaky Blinders and The Fall fame along with Derry Girls star Louisa Harland.

Have a look at the trailer below for a taste of what’s to expect.
