The Emmy Award nominations were announced yesterday with it being revealed that Normal People is in the running for not one, not two, not three… but FOUR different awards.

Paul Mescal received some fairly big news yesterday when the Emmy Award nominations were revealed.  Nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in A Limited Series category, he’s up against some pretty tough competition with the likes of Hugh Jackman, Jeremy Pope, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Irons all in the running as well.

Paul’s co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones lead the congratulations last night, sharing a photo from the Normal People set and writing that she “could not be more proud”.

Later reacting to the news on his own social media, Paul shared a still from the series that shows him in character as Connell. Pictured breaking down in tears, the subtitled photo simply reads “sobs” – which Paul claims he’s been doing quite a lot of since hearing  the nominations were revealed.

“My actual face right now! Thank you to absolutely everyone @element_pictures, @hulu and @bbcthree! Lenny I will forever been indebted to you❤️. @daisyedgarjones this only exists because of you and extraordinary talent end of! Thank you for all your beautiful messages I’m gonna go away and cry now x”

Tbh, it’s only made us love him more. Very well deserved and a testament to the incredible amount of work that went into making the series a success.

The show itself has been nominated in three additional categories – Outstanding Directing For A Limited Series, Outstanding Writing For A Limited Series and Outstanding Casting For A Limited Series.

The 72nd Emmy Awards will take place on September 20th 2020.
