James Fenton

It has been confirmed that Ammonite, the new drama starring Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet will be released on Friday, March 26.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ammonite will be skipping cinemas in favour of a premium video-on-demand rollout, according to Digital Spy. The movie is expected to be available on VOD platforms such as Sky Store, Rakuten TV, Google Play, and Apple TV.

Ammonite is a romantic drama loosely inspired by the life of British palaeontologist Mary Anning, who is played by Winslet. Ronan takes on the role of geologist Charlotte Murchison and the film explores a speculative romantic relationship between the two.

Directed by Francis Lee, Ammonite was placed at number four in the Hollywood Reporter’s Best Films of 2020 list. It also stars Fiona Shaw and Gemma Jones.
