These Ten Musicians Make An Astonishing Amount Of Money From Their Famous Christmas Hits Each Year

Okay, so we’ve thought about it long and hard and as much as we love our jobs here at Lovin, we’re putting all our focus for the next ten months into writing a killer Christmas song for next year followed by an early and successful retirement.

If you’ve ever watched ‘About A Boy’, then you’ll know how Hugh Grant’s character basically lived his life through royalties that his father earned from writing a successful Christmas song.

We’ve all questioned the reality of the situation at some stage while watching the movie but it looks as though the prospect of living through a Christmas song is actually quite possible.

Writing an extremely good festive tune is really worth the time and effort that is put into it as it could earn the ordinary Joe soap more than double their annual salary in one go, AT LEAST.

The annual UK royalties list was released and at the top of the tree is Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’ which earns a staggering €1m each year. FOR ONE SONG.

The Pogues come in at second with ‘Fairytale Of New York’ earning them €400,000 each Christmas and come joint with Mariah Carey who earns the same for her smash hit ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.

East 17’s ‘Stay Another Day’ is rock bottom of the royalties list but still earns just under €100,000 each year and it’s not even really a Christmas song tbh…

Jona Lewie – who released the song ‘Stop The Cavalry’ – admitted to never having a ‘proper job’ since releasing his Christmas hit and could you blame him earning €120,000 for his tune.
