RTE has confirmed that the new Reeling in the Years episodes will be screened very soon

RTE has confirmed that the first new episodes of Reeling in the Years for over a decade will be screened this spring.

Reeling in the Years remains one of Ireland’s favourite programmes but the nature of the nostalgic show means that new episodes don’t come around very often. The most recent series of RITY was broadcast in 2010, covering the events of year 2000 right up until 2009 and RTE has now confirmed that the next edition will make up part of its spring 2021 episodes.

The new series will take in everything that happened from 2010 until 2019 so you can expect recaps on things like the EU-IMF bailout, the historic marriage referendum of 2015 and the successful campaign to repeal the eighth amendment in 2018.

On the sport side, we should be able to reflect on Robbie Brady’s goal against Italy at Euro 2016 and All-Ireland Hurling glory for the likes of Limerick and Galway. Meanwhile, Dublin fans are sure to rejoice at looking back on a decade that saw them win an incredible seven All-Ireland Football titles.

All this and a soundtrack that could potentially include tunes from the likes of Hozier, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and more. Back in June, Reeling in the Years producer John O’Regan told Ryan Tubridy that the release of the upcoming series is “going to be a while” but it now looks like it’s very much on the way. An official date has yet to be confirmed but at least that’s something we can looking forward to over the coming months. Just don’t mention the 2020 episode.
