WATCH: Mo Salah Channels His Inner Theresa May With Awkward Dance At Award Ceremony

James Fenton

Last night, Liverpool’s Mo Salah capped a pretty incredible 2018 by being named African Footballer Of The Year for the second year in a row.

The man known to the Anfield faithful as The Egyptian King bagged 44 goals in all competitions throughout 2017/2018 and hasn’t started this season to badly either with 16 to his name so far. Throw in two goals for his country at the World Cup and it’s fair to say last night’s honour was well-earned.

Taking to the stage to collect the award in Senegal, it was obvious that Salah was delighted his win and he was even convinced to join in with a traditional African dance which, we suspect, wouldn’t be too prominent in the culture of the star’s home country.

It starts off well before Salah slowly becomes visibly more awkward until it just feels like he’d rather be anywhere else in the world. Anyone who has ever been forced to dance at a wedding against their will should relate.

At least he had his Reds teammate and runner-up to his award Sadio Mané to lean on. One thing’s for sure, as long as the pair keep banging in the goals, Liverpool fans won’t care a jot about their dancing skills. Plus, at least they’re not Theresa May, right?
