In related news, Samantha Jones played by a cat has been one of the highlights of 2020.
It has been nearly 17 years since the last episode of Sex & The City aired, and over 10 years since the last movie came out, but Hollywood will never let something die if there is still money to be made!
There have been rumours of a third Sex & The City movie for a few years, because even though that second movie was one of the worst movies of the 21st century, it still made almost $300 million at the box office.
However, according to a report by The New York Post, it looks like that third movie may be developed into a limited series instead, destined for HBO Max, but with only three of the four leading ladies set to take part in the comeback.
Yep, while it does look like Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) are all rumoured to be happy to reunite, it doesn’t look like Samantha (Kim Cattall) will be joining them.
Parker had previously told Entertainment Weekly what her idea for a return to the show might include:
“I’d like to see where all of them are. I’m curious, the world has changed even since the movie… technology and social media, sexual politics and the #MeToo movement and Time’s Up… I think Carrie Bradshaw would just be so greedy to share her feelings and thoughts.”
Cattrall previously spoke about being done with the role, talking to Piers Morgan about the show’s white-washing of New York:
“It’s a great part. I played it past the finish line and then some, and I loved it. And another actress should play it. Maybe they could make it an African-American Samantha Jones, or a Hispanic Samantha Jones.”
Which is disappointing, because… and let us not beat around the bush here… Cattrall as Samantha was very much the best one! But the idea of a more racially diverse S&TC reboot would make for a great watch, we reckon.
And while we’re on the subject, let us talking briefly about Alexandra Kyle, who has helped keep us sane in 2020 by somehow perfectly playing each of the main members of Sex & The City, except for Samantha, because she got her cat to play that role, and somehow, it is absolutely perfect:
