With New Year’s Eve just around the corner, we’re looking back on some of our favourite stories this year and Sinead O’Connor’s gorgeous performance of the song Run definitely makes the cut.
As part of the national broadcaster’s #ShineYourLight initiative, Sinead O’Connor agreed to sing a cover of Snow Patrol hit Run, the lyrics of which have never sounded so poignant.
Speaking before her performance, Sinead explained who she would be shining her light for when the entire nation lit up in solidarity amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“I’m shining my light for all the kids and teenagers who are currently in foster care and have not been able to see their parents,” she said.
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you, dear. ✨#ShineYourLight #LonraighdoSholas @RTEOne @MagdaDavitt77 pic.twitter.com/TznuU0d6Mn— RTÉ (@rte) April 11, 2020
The above performance was a special one and came in what Sinead admitted was a tough week.
Writing on Twitter, Sinead said: “Been having a particularly difficult week due to worrying myself about a loved one who isn’t well. Not Covid related. If anyone fancies lighting me a little candle I’d really appreciate it.”
Sinead’s rendition of Run sparked an emotional response from those who watched from home, with many left in tears at her beautiful voice and gorgeous lyrics.
