Summer Páirc Uí Chaoimh gigs mooted for return of full capacity events

MCD managing director Denis Desmond has pinpointed Westlife’s sold out summer gigs at Páirc Uí Chaoimh as opportunities to resume full capacity events in Ireland.

Westlife are due to play at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on August 27 and 28 and Desmond feels that this could be the time for Irish people to return to full stadia.

Speaking on Morning Ireland on RTÉ Radio One, he said that “we have to save at least part of our summer this year. We can’t have a second summer with nothing.”

Last week at Sefton Park in Liverpool, 5,000 people attended a pilot concert, with all ticketholders having to take a supervised lateral flow test at one of four testing centres in the city the day before. Only those who tested negative were permitted to attend the gig.

Desmond said that the EU is around five weeks behind the UK and that he hopes that Ireland could some test events mid June, in the hope that full capacity events could be held in late-July or August.
