Yesterday evening it was announced that Joe Biden will become the 46th President of the United States – a piece of news that has gone down exceedingly well in the west of Ireland where his extended Irish family and admirers have been celebrating the news.

Making headlines all the way across the water, several US news outlets have picked up the story and turned their attention to Ballina where a colourful mural of the President-Elect – painted by local artists – can be seen. Warming the cockles of US author Dan Savage’s heart, he said he’s been moved by the Irish show of solidarity.
Retweeting an article that appeared in the New York Times about Biden’s ancestral homestead in Co Mayo, the author said that the tale has only made his fondness for both Biden and Ireland grow.
“I don’t know what this story made me love more – Joe Biden or the Irish.”

Several others reiterated his sentiments in the comments with many thanking the ‘Ballina for Biden’ campaign in helping to get him over the line.
According to one: “The Irish are a great loveable bunch. Humour and wit.”

I’m definitely biased but I’d have to agree… better add humble to that list too.
