The Batman release date pushed back to 2022

This is due to the Dune release date being pushed back from its December 2020 release date.

As many people predicted, Bond moving its release date from November 2020 was the first big domino to fall. No Time To Die’s new release date of April 2021 is being somewhat linked to one of the biggest cinema chains in the world closing its doors indefinitely, and now even more of the biggest blockbusters of 2020 are on the move.

Dune, the massive sci-fi action movie initially due for release in December this year, has been pushed back to October 1, 2021. This was the release date previously held by The Batman – the latest take on the caped crusader with Robert Pattison as Bruce Wayne and Ireland’s own Colin Farrell as The Penguin – which, in turn, has also been significantly pushed back, to March 4, 2022.

More big date changes from Warner Brothers include:

  • The Flash – June 3, 2022 to November 4, 2022
  • Shazam 2 – November 4, 2022 to June 2, 2023
  • Black Adam – December 22, 2021 to no set release date
  • Minecraft – March 4, 2022 to no set release date

It isn’t all bad news though, as WB also announced that long-delayed sequel The Matrix 4, originally due for release on April 1, 2022, has been brought forward to December 12, 2021.

So there will still be big blockbusters to see in cinemas in 2021, but maybe just not as many as you might’ve guessed or hoped.

In the meantime, why not reacquaint yourself with the trailer for The Batman, as it is likely the last new footage we’ll be seeing from it for a while…
