The Chase viewers surprised to see Brendan Gleeson’s son appear on the show

James Fenton

Popular quiz show The Chase has been of particular interest to Irish viewers since Dubliner Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis started his stint as a chaser last November.

He wasn’t the only Irishman in town this week as viewers of The Chase were introduced to contestant Rory, who possessed a striking resemblance to one of Ireland’s most famous actors.

It turned out that Rory was in fact Rory Glesson, son of Brendan and brother of actors Domhnall and Brían. Some fans cottoned on with one tweeting: ‘This Rory dude not only looks like Brendan Gleeson, but he has the exact same voice too,’ while another added ‘Rory has to be related to Brendan Gleeson in one way or another! This is unnatural.’

Rory, an author who released his debut novel Rockadoon Shore in 2017, didn’t take long to disappoint viewers however, by plumping for the low off of £1,000 when he came up againt ‘The Beast’ Mark Labbett.

Rory is one of four sons of Brendan Gleeson and his wife Mary, with the others being Domhnall, Fergus and Brían.
