The Chase’s new Irish chaser debuts on today’s episode

Rory Cashin

Say hello to Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis.

Fans of The Chase will have known for a while now that there is a sixth chaser joining the ranks of hyper-intelligent folk who want nothing more than to stop a group of contestants from taking any money home.

Set to join Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty and Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, we’ll be getting our first look at Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis on today’s episode (Friday, November 20) when it airs on Virgin Media One at 2pm.

And for those who might be interested, you should hang around on the channel, as Ennis will then be interviewed on the Elaine Show directly afterwards at 3pm, to talk about his first episode.

The 40-year-old Dublin-born scientist, who now lives in Oxford, Ennis revealed what host Bradley Walsh said about his arrival at the show:

“He was very kind, very friendly. He said, ‘Relax, don’t worry about anything. We’ll have bit of back and forth. You give me a hard time, I’ll give you a hard time, but it’s all just fun. Just go out and do your thing.’ I grew up in a household like that and I have a group of friends at home who are exactly like that. We give each other a terrible time, so it’s great.”

Ennis also revealed what the other Chasers thought about a new member in their ranks, and their reaction after they watched him in action during his first episode:

“They were all super encouraging afterwards when I spoke to them. They were really congratulatory. They said very well done. If you have a bad show they are incredibly sympathetic and they help you. It’s a really nice environment that we all work in. We all try to help each other out. So I think they should be really happy with that.”
