Irish comedian Aisling Bea won big at the Television Craft Awards last week, recognised for her show This Way Up which she penned in honour of her late father.

Irish talent was well represented at the last week’s BAFTA TV Awards with Kildare woman Aisling Bea named as the Breakthrough Talent of the year. Picking up the award for her show This Way Up, the actress described it as a “dream come true”.

Sharing a clip of her acceptance speech on Twitter, she timed it to absolute perfection – impressing the BAFTA bigwigs who are only too used to people running over their allocated slot. Making sure to thank her friends, family and colleagues, she also gave a shout out to her enemies for always keeping her “thirsty”. Not forgetting her late father, for whom she wrote This Way Up.

And with three seconds to spare, as I said, timed to perfection. You can absolutely see why she won.

The Irish contingent has been congratulating Bea on her win since hearing the news with Chris O’Dowd, Amy Huberman and Dara Ó Briain all passing on their well wishes in the comments. In GIF form of course.

You can always rely on GIFs when words fail.

In other news, it’s also been announced that the Irish woman will star in the upcoming Disney+ Home Alone reboot. Joining the likes of Kenan Thompson, Ally Maki and Chris Parnell, according to Bea filming is almost finished.
