The new Pillow Queens EP is essential listening

Fiona Frawley

On Thursday night, Pillow Queens played their first official gig back as a four piece in the new Workman’s music venue.

The 150 tickets sold out in a matter of minutes after being announced, and I was delighted I nabbed one because the atmosphere was magic. A joyful, intimate celebration of the return to live music. It was the kind of feeling you wish you could bottle, but also it’ll hopefully start to become a more regular part of our lives once more so plz god there won’t be any need. I’ll hold off on doing a mass order of “good vibes” bottle labels for the time being.

During Thursday’s show, the Queens teased the release of a new EP featuring covers of their songs by some of their favourite artists. The Quietly Waiting EP is available to listen to now on Spotify and gals, it’ll give you goosebumps.

The EP features covers from SOAK (who played an unREAL surprise set at the gig on Thursday which I’m not ashamed to say I shed a tear during), Damien Dempsey, Wild Pink and Merpire. If your ipod nano used to be filled to the brim with BBC live lounge covers back in the day, this will be right up your street. Queue it up this weekend for your morning walk, your bus journey into town or for your designated weekend cry sesh. We all have one of those, right?
