The Weeknd announced for 2021 Super Bowl halftime show

After the greatness of the 2020 show, he’s got some big shoes to fill…

It has been announced that The Weeknd will be the lead performer at the Halftime show of Super Bowl LV, due to take place on February 7, 2021.

The singer has had several huge hits over the years, including Can’t Feel My Face, Blinding Lights, Heartless, and In Your Eyes, and while his most recent album After Hours was released just a few months ago to great reviews, he has already teased the arrival of a new album coming soon, telling Rolling Stone the following:

“I might have another album ready to go by the time this quarantine is over. I’m guilty of wanting to outdo my last album. But it’s never like, ‘I’ve got to do the same type of song.’ I’m so happy I’m not like that. My palette is so wide.”

Recent performers like Beyonce, Katy Perry & Missy Elliott, the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, and Bruno Mars have all managed to keep the tempo up pretty high throughout, but while he does have some certifiable bangers under his belt, his back catalogue is better known for his mellower sound, it will be interesting to see what The Weeknd brings to the table.

And let us not forget the 2020 performance, where Shakira and Jennifer Lopez joined forces to knock the world off its axis. Let us all watch it in its full 15-minute glory now, shall we?
