There’s a Malcolm in the Middle reunion happening this week

Sarah Finnan

One of the most popular sitcoms of its time, Bryan Cranston has confirmed that the cast of Malcolm in the Middle will reunite this week.

Yes, no, maybe. I don’t know… can you repeat the question?

If you’re not humming the Malcolm in the Middle theme song in your head right now, then we had very, very different childhoods because a large portion of mine was spent singing this to my family in teenage angst. Ok not literally, but I did quote “you’re not the boss of me” to my parents on more than one occasion… which, as you can imagine, didn’t go down too well.

One of the few programmes that my whole family would happily sit down to watch together, Malcolm in the Middle is still a fond favourite in my house. Running for seven seasons and 151 episodes, the series was one of the most popular sitcoms of its time. Shooting Frankie Muniz to fame, it’s also where many of us recognised Bryan Cranston from when he later appeared on TV screens as Walter White in Breaking Bad.

Following the lives of Malcolm and his family, it sounds like the gang will get back together this week (virtually) for a live Zoom reading of the pilot episode. Announcing the reunion news on social media, Cranston took to Instagram to update his followers:

“Here we are… all are stuck in this five months of quarantine! Can you imagine how Hal would have gone bonkers on #MalcolmintheMiddle if he had to stay inside with his five knuckle-headed boys?!  Makes me smile to think about that.

So, if you’ve been missing some silliness in your life, check us out this Saturday night 8/8 for a 20th anniversary celebration of the show’s premiere. The cast is back!! This time we’re reading the pilot episode on Zoom.”

All in aid of a good cause of course, as they’ll be using the occasion to fundraise for Healing California – a charity set up by the show’s creator, Linwood Boomer, that provides free dental, medical and vision care to those in need.

What a buzz.
