In a highly unusual turn of events, Diana the musical will premiere on Netflix before it makes its official Broadway debut later next year. If there’s one thing we’ve learned this year though it’s to expect the unexpected, so I suppose anything goes.
A new musical based on the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, will premiere on Netflix next year. Titled Diana, the performance will take the form of a live recording filmed in the Longacre Theatre where the show was due to open on March 31st of this year.
With the future of theatres, gigs and live performances in question, a decision has been made to premiere the musical on Netflix BEFORE its official Broadway debut. An unprecedented move but one that ultimately makes sense given the current circumstances and the uncertainty surrounding the arts and large public gatherings.
Broadway is coming to Netflix. The new stage musical @DianaOnBroadway, starring Jeanna de Waal, will premiere next year ahead of its 2021 Broadway opening.

Set to be filmed in the empty Longacre Theatre, the recording will feature the original cast with American Idiot star Jeanna de Waal as Princess Diana herself. While Broadway Theatres will remain closed until next year, producers have been working closely with the Actors’ Equity Association to ensure proper health and safety protocols are in place ahead of filming.
Diana the musical will make its official Broadway debut on the new date of May 25th 2021.
