These are the eight best movies on TV today

Rolling from the bed to the couch sounds like a pretty ideal way to spend a Sunday to me… sometimes you just need a lazy day, ya feel? Treat yourself to a day of doing absolutely nothing and your tired bones will thank you for it.

Here are the eight best movies on TV to keep you company while you unwind.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events – 1:55pm – Channel 4

Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket, the story follows the tragic lives of the Baudelaire orphans – Violet, Klaus and Sunny. Trying to escape the clutches of their sinister uncle Count Olaf, the children must outsmart him at every turn as they try to unravel the mysterious circumstances surrounding their parents’ death.

Evan Almighty – 5pm – Comedy Central 

Comedy sequel to Bruce Almighty, Steve Carell stars as Evan Baxter – a politician recruited by God for a special mission. Warned that a devastating flood is coming, Evan is tasked with building an ark in preparation. John Goodman, Lauren Graham and Morgan Freeman also star.

A Knight’s Tale – 5:45pm – RTÉ Two

A medieval comedy adventure film, Heath Ledger plays the role of a peasant squire who – fueled by his desire for food and glory – creates a new identity for himself as a knight after his master dies.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – 9pm – FilmFour

Tom Cruise reprises his role as Jack Reacher, a nomadic vigilante on the run from the law. Learning that the head of his old army unit is being framed for espionage, Reacher jumps to her defence and must uncover the truth behind a major government conspiracy in order to clear her name.

Happy Gilmore – 9pm – Comedy Central 

One of Adam Sandler’s earlier movies, he stars as the title character who enters a prestigious golfing tournament in an effort to drum up enough money to save his debt-ridden grandmother’s house from the IRS.

Geostorm – 9pm – Channel 5

A series of natural disasters threaten the future of the planet, prompting a satellite designer to create a number of climate-controlling satellites to fix the problem. However, those satellites later malfunction and it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm hits. Sci-fi thriller starring Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess and Abbie Cornish.

Christmas with the Coopers – 9:30pm – RTÉ One

Four generations of Coopers reunite to celebrate Christmas together – all bringing their own drama to the table. Comedy, starring Diane Keaton, John Goodman, Ed Helms and Amanda Seyfried with Steve Martin lending his voice as Rags – the family dog/narrator.

Little Miss Sunshine – 11:07pm – TG4

Learning that seven-year-old Olive has qualified for the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant, the Hoover family pile into their trusty Volkswagen van and embark on a cross-country trip to California… hitting many speedbumps along the way.
