These are the eight best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

We could all do with a good laugh, and thankfully there are some amazing comedies on TV tonight.

Tonight’s movie programmers must’ve known we all needed something to life our spirits, so no less than five of tonight’s movies are comedies. Outside of that, there is some great action, a Bond movie, and an Oscar winning drama.

Take your pick!

Enough Said – FilmFour – 7.10pm

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld, VEEP) and the late, great James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) star in this lovely romantic comedy drama about two middle-aged people who both thought they’d never find love again, until they found each other. But their new relationship doesn’t come without its own unique complications.

Licence To Kill – ITV4 – 8pm

One of the darkest Bond movies ever made, with 007 (Timothy Dalton’s second and last outing) getting revenge for the attempted murder of one of his best friends. That theme song is still one of the best of the lot, and we won’t hear anything saying otherwise.

Training Day – TCM – 9pm

Ethan Hawke is the new recruit in the LAPD, and his new partner (Oscar-winner Denzel Washington) takes him to some of the most dangerous parts of the city, and reveals he is as corrupt as the felons they’re supposed to be arresting.

Airplane! – Comedy Central – 9pm

One of the funniest movies ever made. That is all.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard – FilmFour – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds is a bodyguard who is hired to protect the life a hitman, played by Samuel L. Jackson, before he testifies in court. But these two have a long, violent, hate-filled history, so things don’t go according to plan. A fun action-comedy.

Face/Off – ITV4 – 10.45pm

Good guy John Travolta and bad guy Nic Cage swap faces, and all hell breaks loose. Still one of the best action movies ever made, but every time we sit down to watch it, we keep forgetting it is TWO HOURS AND TWENTY MINUTES LONG. Totally worth the lack of sleep, though.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil – Comedy Central – 10.50pm

Legendary comedy duo Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder are a blind man and deaf man, respectively, who accidentally find themselves in the middle of a murder plot and a country-wide conspiracy.

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story – FilmFour – 11.20pm

Vince Vaughan and Ben Stiller are two competing gym owners who decide to enter a dodgeball competition in order to decide which gym will stay open. Along the way, they learn the five D’s of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge.
