These are the eleven best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

This is one of the very best collections of movies on TV on the same night that we’ve ever seen.

Normally we’d go into some detail on each of the best movies on TV tonight, but there are SO MANY of them tonight, we’re gonna have to just zip through them. Ready? Okay!

You’ve Got Mail – Comedy Central – 6.45pm

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan reunite for their third (and, so far, final) rom-com, about the owner of a massive book store chain (Hanks) and a cute little small book shop (Ryan) who meet and fall in love, unaware they’re actually business rivals.

Central Intelligence – FilmFour – 6.50pm

The Rock and Kevin Hart have some great comedic chemistry in this action-comedy about a CIA agent (The Rock) who recruits a high school pal (Hart) to help solve a case.

Spider-Man: Homecoming – BBC One – 7.55pm

Tom Holland’s first solo outing as Spider-Man (even though he kind of has Iron Man as back-up) is brilliantly entertaining, pitching him against Michael Keaton’s villainous Vulture.

Apollo 13 – Sky One – 8pm

Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton star in this gripping true-life thriller about the space shuttle that faced some severe technical problems on its way home.

Anchorman 2 – E4 – 9pm

Not as funny as the original, but still plenty of laughs to be found, with Ron Burgandy and the re-assembled News Team tackling the world of news in a brand new decade.

The Martian – RTE Two – 9.30pm

Matt Damon is accidentally left behind on Mars when a space mission goes wrong, and he must find a way to survive alone on the inhospitable planet before a rescue team can come back for him.

The Wolf of Wall Street – ITV4 – 10pm

Leo DiCaprio stars in Martin Scorsese’s biopic about Jordan Belfort, a man who built an empire out of the stock market, only to see it all crumble down around him.

Collateral – BBC One – 10.40pm

Tom Cruise is the hitman who hires a taxi driver (Jamie Foxx) for a night to bring him from one job to the next over the course of one night.

Jackass 2.5 – Comedy Central Extra – 11pm

A group of men hurt themselves a lot on camera, for your enjoyment.

Turbulence – Virgin Media One – 11pm

Without a doubt, the worst movie that is on TV tonight, but also maybe the most off-the-walls fun. Ray Liotta is a serial killer who gets loose on a 747, with only one flight attendant in his way from crashing the plane into Los Angeles.

Carol – FilmFour – 1.25am

Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara star in this lush romantic drama about two women who fall in love, but must keep their relationship a secret from everyone around them.
