These are the five best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan, and Pierce Brosnan are all on your telly tonight!

Out of the five movies on TV tonight, three of them feature some of the best acting talent to come out of Ireland in recent years.

What are the chances of that? Well, three-in-five, it would appear, but still. Good odds! Enjoy!

Brooklyn – BBC Four – 8pm

Saoirse Ronan is the Irish woman who is torn between her home country and her new life in New York. A brilliant period romance drama that nabbed Saoirse one of her FOUR (to date) Oscar nominations.

Die Another Day – ITV4 – 10pm

The fourth (and worst) of Brosnan’s 007 outings has him pairing up with an American secret agent (Halle Berry) in order to take down a North Korean threat. There is a baddie with diamonds in his face, an invisible car, and para-surfing on a tidal wave. It is all ludicrous but mind-numbing fun.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles – FilmFour – 11pm

Steve Martin is trying desperately to get home to his family in time for Thanksgiving, and he ends up pairing up with John Candy in an attempt to make it back across America in time for the holiday.

The Beguiled – BBC Two – 11.30pm

Set during the American Civil War, Colin Farrell plays a soldier who is injured in battle and happens across an all-girl boarding school, housing Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and others. Soon jealousy and lust begins to spring up amongst them all.

Sightseers – FilmFour – 12.45am

A relatively new couple take a caravanning holiday in South England, but the woman doesn’t realise that her new boyfriend is actually a maniacal serial killer, murdering anyone who puts a dent in their perfect holiday. But instead of running away in fear, she decides to join in with the killing. An incredibly dark comedy-horror.
