These are the five best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

Tonight’s selection has a lot of action movies in the mix.

We’re not sure why, but four of five tonight’s movies could safely be described as action movies.

Sure, some of them lean harder into sci-fi, or thrillers, or heist movies, or big blockbusters, but they are all action movies. Except for the very first pick of the flicks tonight…

Labyrinth – Comedy Central – 7pm

When a teenage girl (Jennifer Connolly) wishes that her baby brother would disappear, she discovers to her horror that her wish has come true, and she is forced into a magical world to rescue him from a Goblin King (David Bowie).

Transformers: The Last Knight – FilmFour – 9pm

The fifth entry in the Transformers franchise brings in Anthony Hopkins and Stanley Tucci for the aliens-that-are-robots-but-disguised-as-cars explode ’em up action-fest.

Demolition Man – TCM – 11.05pm

Sylvester Stallone is the LA cop who is frozen in a futuristic prison (well… 1996), and re-awoken in the year 2032 in order to help the now entirely violence-free LAPD to stop highly trained killer Wesley Snipes.

The Losers – ITV4 – 11.15pm

A very impressive cast – including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans and Idris Elba – headline this story about an elite group of soldiers who are sent to Bolivia for a mission by the CIA, only to be double-crossed and left for dead.

Triple 9 – FilmFour – 12.05am

Another remarkably stacked cast – Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Clifton Collins Jr., Norman Reedus, Teresa Palmer, Michael K. Williams, Gal Gadot, Woody Harrelson, and Kate Winslet – feature in this thriller about a group of crooked cops who are given an impossible mission to do by the Russian mafia, or they’ll all be killed.
