While your options for what to do on your Saturday night will remain limited for the foreseeable future, we can always trust there to be some decent movies on the telly to choose from.

Star Trek – Channel 4 – 6.35pm

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana headline this action-packed reboot, with a time-travelling space villain (Eric Bana) who decides to take aim at Earth.

Paddington 2 – CBBC – 7.20pm

Celebrate the news of the impending threequel by rewatching one of the greatest family friendly movies ever made, featuring Hugh Grant in maybe the best role of his career.

Just Friends – Comedy Central – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds is forced to return to his hometown for Christmas, reuniting with his childhood BFF who he had a crush on back in the day. But while he’s grown to become a rich and handsome semi-celebrity, being back home turns him back into the nervous teenage he was back in the day.

Sicario – FilmFour – 9pm

Emily Blunt is the low-level FBI agent who finds herself caught up in the drug war between the CIA and the Mexican cartels, all while her superiors prove to be just as dangerous as the criminals.

San Andreas – Sky One – 9pm

The Rock is a rescue helicopter pilot who is trying to save his wife and daughter from the worst earthquake in human history.

Mission Impossible: Fallout – Channel 4 – 9pm

Tom Cruise is back to put his body through the wringer – this was the one he broke his ankle in, while trying to jump across high rooftops – and with the arrival of Henry Cavill as an equally ruthless agent, this really is one of the best action movies of the last decade.

Everest – RTE Two – 9.40pm

An all-star cast including Jason Clarke, Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley and Emily Watson feature in this retelling of the real life 1996 disastrous climb which ended in 12 people dying while attempting to climb the world’s highest peak.
