These are the six best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

A very decent selection of movies on TV for your Thursday evening in!

Here we are, just one more sleep to the weekend! This week has been absolutely flying/dragging in (delete as necessary), and there is a very good selection of movies on your TV tonight to enjoy before the weekend finally arrives.

All The President’s Men – BBC Four – 9pm

Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman star in this based-on-a-true-story of two Washington Post journalists who broke the Watergate scandal, that eventually brought down President Nixon.

The Equalizer – FilmFour – 9pm

Denzel Washington reteams with his Training Day director for this big budget update of the classic TV show, playing a quiet loner who proves to be handy with violence when the situation calls for it.

Transformers – Sky One – 9pm

The first (and best) of the recent big screen Transformers movies (not including the Bumblebee spin-off/prequel, which was actually very good), has more in common with ET and Back to the Future than it does with out-and-out war movies like the later movies would lean into, and it is the better for it!

The Matrix – TCM – 9pm

Still one of the all time greatest science fiction movies, and undoubtedly one of the most influential. Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne attempt to save all of humanity from a futuristic artificial intelligence, using guns and leather jackets and stuff.

Casino Royale – ITV4 – 9pm

We’re still waiting for Daniel Craig’s final turn as 007 to hit the big screens, so why not go back and check out where it all began, taking on Mads Mikklensen’s card-playing, eye-bleeding villain.

Daybreakers – FilmFour – 11.40pm

Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill star in this sci-fi-thriller set in a future where vampires have completely taken over the world, and humans have become an endangered species.
