It’s news to nobody that Ireland is obsessed with Ed Sheeran.
Even since he made an appearance on The Late Late Toy Show in 2014, the Shape Of You singer has been held in the same esteem as legends like Michael D Higgins and Amy Huberman and can do no wrong in our nation’s eyes.
However, the sheer scale of our obsession has never been spelled out quite as clearly as it was in one horrifying tweet we spotted earlier today.

We’ve checked it out and it’s legit. Ed Sheeran had the number one single in Ireland for four months aka 16 weeks aka 120 days.
MADNESS.
While we’ve nothing against Mr Sheeran himself, this is a pretty grim situation when you think about all the amazing Irish music that’s out there at the moment.
