This Irish animation company is taking over your TVs this Christmas

Rory Cashin

The fantastic Irish animators have movies on both RTE and BBC over Christmas.

Based out of Glasnevin in Dublin, the folks at Giant Animation are about to take over your TVs this Christmas.

If you haven’t heard of Giant yet, then don’t worry, because you’ll be hearing all about them before too long. Their company mission statement is to be “An independent animation studio focused on the development and production of exciting new ideas for television, feature film, games and everything in-between. In all of our work, we pride ourselves on strong visual storytelling, using a diverse range of styles to bring our ideas to life.”

As way of great introductions, over the days when friends and family will be gathered round their tellys, Giant have not one but two of their movies showing, and on two of the prime time slots over the Christmas break.

On Christmas Eve, if you flick over to RTE Two at 5.45pm, you can watch The Overcoat, which features the voice work of none other than Cillian Murphy.

And then at 2.35pm on Christmas Day itself, coming right after Early Man (from the director of Wallace & Gromit), and right before the Queen’s Christmas Broadcast, you can check out Zog and the Flying Doctors, which is a Magic Light Pictures production, with Giant providing the animation services.

Sean Mullen, co-founder of Giant and director of both movies, told Lovin the following:

“I’m absolutely thrilled that both films will be screening on BBC One and RTE2 over the Christmas period. It was a joy to bring these unique and heart-warming stories to the screen, whose shared themes of kindness and compassion in difficult times are all too relevant in today’s world. Our fantastic team worked hard to bring each film to life, and I hope audiences enjoy watching them as much as we enjoyed making them.”

Next stop, the Oscars!
