Tom Hanks’ new Oscar-hopeful cowboy movie set to arrive on Netflix quite soon

The new movie from the director The Bourne Ultimatum was originally planned to arrive in Irish cinemas on New Year’s Day.

There is a lot of awards talk around Tom Hanks’ new movie, News Of The World.

He reunites with the director of Captain Phillips – which was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture, but criminally, Hanks was overlooked – the story tells the story of a Civil War veteran (Hanks), who agrees to deliver a girl, taken by the Kiowa people years ago, to her aunt and uncle, against her will. They travel hundreds of miles and face grave dangers as they search for a place that either can call home.

The movie was originally due to be released in the States on Christmas Day, and cinemas in Ireland were set to get the movie on New Year’s Day. However, according to a report by Deadline, Netflix have now picked up the international rights to the movie.

As per the rules about cinematic releases and the gap between their dates and their availability on streaming services, there must be at least 17 days from when they’re first shown in cinemas to when they can be made available to watch at home.

This could mean that Hanks’ new movie could be available on Netflix as early as Tuesday, January 12.

Pretty great way to start your new cinematic year! Check out the trailer for News Of The World right here:
