WATCH: American Gives Glowing Review Of Derry Girls But There’s Only One Problem

James Fenton

As Derry Girls fans on this side of the world await the release of the second series, American viewers are still getting to grips with the first one on Netflix.

By all accounts, the Channel 4 sitcom has gone down very well Stateside and one video review has even caught the attention of Nicola Coughlan, who plays Clare Devlin in the series.

YouTuber Tyler Rusher had just finished watching the show before posting an altogether lovely clip where she gushes over the writing and performances as well as the how Derry Girls genuinely reflects on the experiences of teenagers, albeit in the tense setting of 1990s Northern Ireland.

Nicola caught wind of the review and commented ‘my face nearly fell off from smiling watching this’ before retweeting the clip as ‘my favourite review Derry Girls has ever had bar none.’

A brilliant and passionate review but we’re going to have to talk about that accent at the end which definitely sounds more East London than Foyleside. Although, we can’t expect Americans to have the Derry accent down after watching only one series. Perhaps they’ll all have perfect Northern Irish drawls after the second instalment?
