Saturday nights – like most other nights these days – revolve around the telly. But with no work to worry about in the morning, now’s the time to crack open that bottle of whatever it is you’ve been eyeing up all week, put your feet up and lean into the relaxation.

Liar Liar – ITV2 – 6:20pm
Jim Carrey embodies the ‘liar, liar, pants on fire’ mentality in this old-school classic. Taking on the role of Fletcher Reede, he stars as a fast-track lawyer who built his whole career around telling fibs.
Independence Day: Resurgence – Channel 4 – 6:45pm
Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Bill Pullman lead the cast for Independence Day: Resurgence. Set 20 years after the events of the first film, Earth is faced by another, even deadlier attack – one which technology may not be able to protect against.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – RTÉ One – 7:05pm
The sequel to Journey to the Centre of the Earth, it’s based on another Jules Verne novel and features well-known stars such as Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán and Kristin Davis.
Shrek the Third – E4 – 7:10pm
The first is obviously the best, but who are we to resist a Shrek movie? Mike Myers returns as the green ogre everyone loves to hate, who somehow finds himself next in line for the throne. Not in favour of swapping his beloved swamp for a life of luxury, Shrek sets out on a quest to find the next heir – a teenager named Artie (voiced by Justin Timberlake).
Skyfall – ITV2 -9pm
Daniel Craig’s third outing as 007, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested when a former operative goes rogue and cooks up a plan to discredit her. Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw also feature.
The Martian – FilmFour – 9pm
A lone astronaut struggles to survive on Mars after being left behind by his team. Science-fiction movie starring Matt Damon.
Inception – RTÉ Two – 9:50pm
Leonardo DiCaprio takes on the role of a talented thief who uses hi-tech devices to infiltrate the subconscious of his targets, stealing their secrets.
The Lone Ranger – BBC Two – 9pm
Based on the title character of the same name, Armie Hammer takes on the role of The Lone Ranger, starring alongside Johnny Depp as Tonto and Helena Bonham Carter as Red Harrington.
Instant Family – Channel 4 – 9pm
Pete (Mark Wahlberg) and Ellie (Rose Byrne) are a happily married couple who suddenly find themselves in over their heads when they foster a rebellious teenager and her two siblings.
Horrible Bosses – UTV – 10:50pm
Black comedy film that follows three friends who decide to murder their respective bosses. starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey, and Jamie Foxx.
