Petition To Get This New Show Off Netflix Reaches Over 100,000 Signatures

A petition on Change.org to cancel a brand new Netflix series has reached over 100,000 signatures.

The teen comedy-drama ‘Insatiable’ has had numerous complaints on Twitter following its trailer which was released last week.

It follows a character Patty or ‘fatty-Patty’ as she is known to her fellow students who gets bullied for being fat but all that changes when she comes back from a school break where she loses a substantial amount of weight and is deemed “attractive.”

Patty then looks at ways to get revenge on the bullies and has been described by Netflix as a “dark, twisted revenge comedy”.

London-based social activist Florence Given has set up a petition to cancel the programme before it arrives on the service in August.

She said that:

“We need to stop accepting these narratives, and start challenging them. That is what this is about.

“I don’t want young women experiencing the same thing I did as a young teenager if it can be helped, and it starts with saying that we just won’t accept these stories anymore, unless they’re being told with purpose and REAL FAT WOMEN!”

Patty, who is played by Debby Ryan, said that being apart of the show was a way to address and confront such serious issues through a form of satire.

“Satire is a way to poke fun at the hardest things, bring darkness into the light, and enter difficult conversations.”

Do you think this show should be cancelled? Let us know in the comments.
