The trailer for the highly anticipated new film from The Conjuring’s James Wan has just dropped and it looks seriously terrifying.
The Curse of La Llorona is based on a popular (and very creepy) Mexican urban legend about the ghost of a woman known as La Llorona who has long black hair.
La Llorona, which translates into English as 'The Weeping Woman', is said to wander near rivers and creeks looking for her lost children who she had accidentally pushed into a river and drowned, and looking for others to drag into the depths below.
The ancient legend is now being turned into a Hollywood film starring Linda Cardellini, Patricia Velásquez, Raymond Cruz and Sean Patrick Thomas.
The film synopsis reads, 'When Anna Garcia, a social worker and widow raising her two kids in 1973 Los Angeles, is called to check in on one of her cases, she finds signs of foul play.
'As she digs deeper, she finds striking similarities between the case and the terrifying supernatural occurrences haunting her family. Enlisting the help of a local faith healer, she discovers that La Llorona has latched herself onto Anna and will stop at nothing to take her children.'
The film will be released in the US on April 19 next year, though there’s no official date for Ireland just yet.
