Netflix’s New Additions For This Weekend Will Have You Stuck To Your Screens

Congrats.

You made it to the final weekend of January and I’d say you are only delighted to see February roll into town. 

However, there is one more miserable weekend to endure and if you’re still doing Dry January or you’re broke as a joke after Christmas still, Netflix has come to the rescue, again. 

They have released brand new titles that are coming to our Netflix screens this weekend and there is some absolute crackers in there.

Here they are: 

Black Lightning: Season 1   (Now Streaming)

Jefferson Pierce is a man wrestling with a secret. Nine years ago, Pierce was gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, which he used to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life and his family on the line, he left his Super Hero days behind. 

Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him, or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

A Futile and Stupid Gesture (Now Streaming)

Will Forte and Domhnall Gleeson star in this exploration of the troubled life and ground-breaking career of “National Lampoon” co-founder Doug Kenney.

Based on the book A Futile and Stupid Gesture: How Doug Kenney and National Lampoon Changed Comedy Forever by Josh Karp, the movie was adapted by Michael Colton and John Aboud and focuses on the troubled life and career of Kenney and how National Lampoon influenced the comedy scene in America in the ’70s and ’80s. Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern serve as producers.

Joy (Now Streaming)

A story of a family across four generations, centered on the girl who becomes the woman (Jennifer Lawrence) who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Facing betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, Joy becomes a true boss of family and enterprise. 

Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces.

One Day At A Time (Now Streaming)

A reimagining of the Norman Lear classic, centering on a Cuban-American family. Our heroine is a recently separated, former military mom (Justina Machado) navigating a new single life while raising her radical teenaged daughter and socially adept tween son, with the “help” of her old school Cuban-born mom (Rita Moreno) and a friends-without-benefits building manager named Schneider. 

The 13-episode first season of One Day at a Timeis produced by Act III Productions, Inc., Snowpants Productions and Small Fish Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television. Norman Lear, Mike Royce, Gloria Calderón Kellett and Michael Garcia are executive producers.

Dirty Money (Now Streaming)

Dirty Money is a thrilling investigative series from Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney, which provides an up-close and personal view into untold stories of scandal and corruption in the world of business. 

Using first-hand accounts from perpetrators and their victims, combined with rarely-seen video footage, this addictive series keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

How the World Ends (Now Streaming)

In The World’s End, 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. 

They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. 

As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Annie  (Now Streaming)

Ever since her parents left her as a baby, little Annie (Quvenzhané Wallis) has led a hard-knock life with her calculating foster mother, Miss Hannigan. 

However, all that changes when hard-nosed billionaire and mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) takes her in on the recommendation of his advisers (Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale). Stacks believes that he’s Annie’s guardian angel, but the plucky youngster’s confidence and sunny outlook may mean that Annie will save Will instead.

Despicable Me 2 (Now Streaming)

Now that Gru (Steve Carell) has forsaken a life of crime to raise Margo, Agnes and Edith, he’s trying to figure out how to provide for his new family. As he struggles with his responsibilities as a father, the Anti-Villain League – an organization dedicated to fighting evil – comes calling. 

The AVL sends Gru on a mission to capture the perpetrator of a spectacular heist, for who would be better than the world’s greatest ex-villain to capture the individual who seeks to usurp his power.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Now Streaming)

Adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic vampire novel. Gary Oldman plays Dracula whose lonely soul is determined to reunite with his lost love, Mina (Winona Ryder). In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of terror and seduction draining the life from her closest friend, Lucy (Sadie Frost). Together they try and drive Dracula away.

Perfect Stranger (Now Streaming)

Rowena Price (Halle Berry), a reporter, uses her investigative skills to solve the murder of a friend. Her search leads her to Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis), a high-powered advertising executive. She assumes new identities in the real world and online, utilizing cyberspace in a bid to bring her quarry to justice.

Wind Chill (Now Streaming)

Just before their university campus goes quiet for the winter break, a young woman (Emily Blunt) asks a classmate (Ashton Holmes) for a lift home. The two students set off on their trip and begin to get to know each other. 

But, when a reckless motorist drives them off the road, they find themselves stranded in the snow on a remote highway. As the night grows colder, the two are confronted by a horde of menacing apparitions — and struggle to escape with their lives.

Llama Llama: Season 1  (Now Streaming)

Come along and play with Llama in the all new Llama Llama animated series featuring Jennifer Garner as the voice of Mama Llama. Based on the award-winning and bestselling book series by celebrated author and illustrator Anna Dewdney, the new preschool series will be available only on Netflix, January 26th.

The Adventures of Puss in Boots: Season 6 (Now Streaming)

The world’s greatest swashbuckling kitty returns, taking on any daring adventure and every glass of milk in this family-friendly original series.
