One Very Awkward Scene On First Dates Ireland Will Get The Whole Country Debating

Darragh Berry

There was confusion and there was awkwardness. Watching at home you didn’t know where to look or what to think so you just sat there quietly with your fingers covering your eyes, still peeping out to see the outcome.

Ben and Amy were one of the first guests on the brand new series of ‘First Dates Ireland’ and their date was going perfect until the bill came out at the end.

Just to get you up to speed with things, this is how much the bill came to:

Just over €180.

Ben straight away said he’d pay for the lot to which Amy replied, “we’ll split it”.

He didn’t know it at the time but this was a test from Amy and although he hesitated for a moment, Ben eventually agreed to go splitsies.

Ben had failed the test in Amy’s eyes.

She went on to admit that “I would expect a man to pay, but he didn’t and that’s fine.”

But it was not fine, not fine at all.

When the waitress came down to take for Ben’s half of the bill on card, Amy joked about how she wished that Ben was as good looking as her.

The date seemed to be going downhill fast and although Ben was infatuated with Amy, she did not feel the same way and all hope was lost.

NOT.

The pair ended up going to Dicey’s and a picture of a cheeky kiss between the two of them was caught on camera.

The clip above does beg the question: Should a man pay for the meal?

The age old question will definitely come up more than once this season.
