Staying In? The Heartbreaking Whitney Houston Documentary Is Now On Netflix

James Fenton

On February 11 2012, the world was rocked by the news that music icon Whitney Houston had passed away at the age of 48.

Prior to her death, the troubled singer was never far from the headlines as she battled with drug problems and other personal issues, all of which are highlighted in the heartbreaking documentary Can I Be Me?

The film was released in cinemas to a generally positive reception in 2017 and luckily for Netflix subscribers, it’s now available to watch on the streaming service.

Can I Be Me? is a revealing account of Whitney’s meteoric rise to fame followed by her subsequent demise. Directed by Nick Broomfield, the man behind other music biopics like Kurt & Courtney and Biggie & Tupac, it uses real life archive footage to paint a sad picture of the life of one of the planet’s highest-selling female artists.

It received rave reviews upon release and is a great watch for fans of Whitney as well as casual observers. Just have the tissues nearby.
