Film That Was A Massive Hit In Ireland Is On RTÉ Tonight

Darragh Berry

I remember going to see this movie while I was in college in Galway and on its third night, it was still sold out the door with throngs of people being turned away.

Whether you’re into rap music or not, N.W.A are a massive part of music history and ‘Straight Outta Compton’ tells the story of a couple of guys who set up a band like the world has never seen.

Formed by Dr Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, DJ Yella and Ice Cube, their first single ‘Boys ‘n’ The Hood’ attracted the attention of a big music manager by the name of Jerry Heller.

It shows the struggles that they have to go through outside of music, just for being black, as one scene shows them getting searched by police just for standing idle on the pavement.

Money tears them apart but their tight friendship and love for good music was always going to bring them back together, no matter how short of a time-span they all had left together.

If you haven’t seen this movie, it’s one of the best documentary style films you’ll ever see.

It’s on RTÉ Two on Thursday night at half 9.
