This New Netflix Special Reveals How Easy It Is To Become A Murderer

Most of us like to consider ourselves good, law-abiding people, but Derren Brown: The Push really forces you question your deepest assumptions about who you really are.

The premise of this Netflix special is simple: can you convince someone to commit murder through social pressure alone?

At the very beginning of the show renowned mentalist Derren Brown explains that people with a high tendency to comply are more likely to give into social pressure and do whatever an authority demands — which he brilliantly illustrates by convincing a random person to kidnap a child.

In Derren Brown: The Push, the unsuspecting star of the show is a man named Chris, who has been invited to a charity auction which, if all goes well, will see millions of pounds being donated to children in need across the UK.

Of course, not all is what it seems.

The entire event has been carefully choreographed by Brown to place Chris at the centre of a situation that is rapidly spiralling out of control, forcing him to find the very limits of what he’s capable of. Everyone at the event is an actor and celebrities like David Tennant, Robbie Williams and Matt Lucas get involved in order to make the whole thing look more authentic.

You can’t help but feel bad for Chris, who has to endure incredible stress, emotional turmoil and even public embarrassment during the course of one insane evening.

Derren Brown: The Push really makes you ask yourself: what would I do in this situation?

And you might not like the answer.
