First Dates is a perfect example of a reality show that has maintained a certain level of class.
In a trope that lends itself all too easily to the exploitation of people, the show has always kept things above board and dealt with their subjects tastefully while keeping it light-hearted.
This was certainly the case last night, when an episode aired that featured a gentleman who had since passed away.
Norman was 71 when he appeared on the British version of First Dates, and he was paired with 74-year-old Margaret.
The two hit it off, and even went on a few dates after the show – bonding over their shared love of living life to the fullest.
However, in the recap at the end of the programme, there was some heartbreaking news.
The captions read:
“After going on several dates, Norman took Margaret to a Masonic ladies night. Norman’s motto was to live life to the full,” the tribute read.
“At 72, Norman’s love for life took him to Greece where he sadly passed away surrounded by the family he adored.”
Needless to say, viewers were touched and saddened by the message.
Oh Norman! To any of his family that are reading, please know that Norman has touched our hearts and encouraged us to keep living and looking for love. #FirstDates

Heartbroken watching #FirstDates – genuinely sobbing, Norman had such an appreciation for life.
