WATCH: The Artemis Fowl Movie Trailer Has Been Released And It Looks Dark

Jen

Be still our pre-teen hearts.

The trailer for Artemis Fowl has finally been released. I say finally because if you’re of a certain vintage, let’s say, then you’ll know that plans for an Artemis Fowl film have been in production for quite some time.

The original boy tipped to play Artemis is now about 30 years old, for example. I only know this because an old boyfriend was one of the hopefuls that got knocked out at the last few stages about 15 years ago.

He told me about his almost-brush with fame when we were dating at 17 and 18. During his story, you could tell he was delighted that the lad he lost out to would not become a movie star, either.

Anyway, now that the film has the backing of Disney, you know the production value is gonna be pretty daycent and it should be fairly true to the book.

The live-action adaption will be based on the first two instalments of the best-selling children’s series which focuses on Artemis, child genius and criminal mastermind.

You can already tell that as a 10 or 11 year old, this was a hypnotic concept that had us devouring the books the minute they were released.

I’m gonna guess there will be a lot of 26-30-year-olds going to the cinema for this one. No shame.

Over 1,200 boys auditioned for the titular role with Kilkenny teen Ferdia Shaw nabbing the coveted title.

Dublin’s Lara McDonnell bagged herself the role of elf Holly Short who went head-to-head with Artemis in the first book.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the film.

Josh Gad, Judi Dench and Games of Thrones’ Nonso Anozie will also star in the film and Kenneth Brannagh is in the directing seat.

The film is due in cinemas on August 9, 2019.
