5 Quality Netflix Dramas To Fill The Void Left By Sherlock

Sometimes you get tired of watching a lot of crap. You feel the need for something cerebral, something beautifully made, with actors at the top of their game.

Now that you’ve finished Sherlock and you’re looking for something critically acclaimed, that you know for a fact is good but you maybe haven’t gotten around to watching yet.

Look no further than these Netflix titles.

1. The Theory of Everything

A biopic about the life of Stephen Hawking, from his days as a student at Cambridge, through his diagnosis with motor neuron disease and his discovery of the Big Bang theory. Eddie Redmayne won an Oscar for his amazing performance

2. The People v OJ Simpson

The trial of the century meets the golden age of television. Featuring Cuba Gooding Jr, David Schwimmer, John Travolta and Sarah Paulson.

3. The King’s Speech

Bertie, played by Colin Firth, has been thrust into the position of King after his brother abdicates. But will he be able to unite the country ahead of war if he can’t speak? Winner of the Best Picture and Best Actor at the Oscars.

4. The Crown

The series follows the trials of longest reigning monarch in the world, Elizabeth II. Filled with beautiful cinematography, great performances and interesting bits of history most of us have never heard about. 

For best results, watch The King’s Speech beforehand to get the background.

5. Silk

A realistic depiction of what it’s like being a criminal defence lawyer who is trying to make Queen’s Counsel, or what is known as ‘taking silk’. It’s by the BBC so you know it’s quality.
