Derry Girls, Nicola Coughlan, was lucky to escape serious injury when a concrete block crashed through her bathroom ceiling on Monday night.

Nicola, who plays Clare Devlin in the hit Channel 4 show, shared images of the damage caused by the block, which would have hit her if it had broken through the ceiling moments earlier.

“Last night a concrete block crashed through my ceiling seconds after I’d been standing under it,” she tweeted.

Nicola confirmed that a chartered surveyor was scheduled to visit her flat to check the structural safety.

Nicola’s issue was not the only household damage suffered by a Derry Girls star in recent days as Siobhan McSweeney, who plays Sister Michael, revealed that her flat caught fire when a cube double adapter had become slightly loosened from her bedside socket.

Siobhan was not in her flat at the time that firefighters arrived and chopped down her front door when they discovered the “whole flat in acrid smoke and my bedroom so hot it had cracked the windows.”

Thankfully, neither actress was injured.

Both Nicola and Siobhan will be taking part in the upcoming crossover between Derry Girls and The Great British Bake Off.

They will be joined by cast-mates Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn for the New Year’s Day special.
