The Late Late Show will feature special tributes to Shane MacGowan

The line-up for Friday’s Late Late Show has been revealed.

Host Ryan Tubridy got viewers excited last week when he announced that the next Late Late Show would feature a special tribute to Shane MacGowan.

Tubridy teased: “Next week on the Late Late Show, I’m very excited to tell you it’ll be our privilege to pay tribute to one of my favourite people.. Mr Shane MacGowan – musician, songwriter, frontman of the Pogues. When you think of it he’s the man who wrote the best song of all time, did he not?

“And next Friday Shane MacGowan and a whole host of stars will perform Fairytale of New York right here on the Late Late Show well as other songs from Shane and friends, stories, – it’s going to be beautiful. It’s promised to be a session like no other so don’t miss it.”

The list of names who will be paying tribute to MacGowan has now been revealed by RTE.

Glen Hansard and Lisa O’Neill are set to join the band for a live performance of A Rainy Night in Soho while guests who will be discussing MacGowan’s impact on music include Aidan Gillen, Patrick Bergin, Moya Brennan, Philomena Begley and Pat McCabe.

Also joining Tubridy and MacGowan on the show will be the singer’s wife, Victoria Mary Clarke.

Elsewhere on the programme, laughs are guaranteed when comedians Pat Shortt and Jason Byrne take to the studio.

The Late Late Show’s Shane MacGowan special airs at 9.35pm on Friday, December 13.
