The Director-General of RTÉ has said that she wants to double the price of the television license fee.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning, Dee Forbes said that she would like to increase the annual cost to €320 – adding that she thinks the current fee is “incredible value for money”.
The national broadcaster is presently under serious financial pressure, putting 8.64 acres of its Montrose property up for sale for €75m.
Forbes said that an increase in the license fee would allow RTÉ to improve its standard of programming and warned of widespread changes across the organisation.
“It’s a case of adapt or die. And that’s where we are now. We do need to make these cuts, they are necessary to the survival of the organisation,” she said.
