Woohoo - Ireland Is More Than Likely Getting Its Own Version Of 'Saturday Night Live'

SNL is home to some of the most legendary TV sketches and comedy moments we've ever laid our pretty little eyes on, so it's safe to say that we're giddy with excitement at hearing it might be coming to Ireland.

The Irish Times reports that Kite Entertainment, which makes TV3’s Gogglebox, have optioned the Irish rights to the US television show format Saturday Night Live.

The gas show has been running since 1975, and made a huge mark on people outside of the States with the viral Melissa McCarthy impersonation of Sean Spicer.

Kite hopes that an Irish broadcaster will commission an Irish version of the show, which features an ever-changing cast of comedians, actors and other celebrities.

“We have the rights to go to pitch it to broadcasters and talk to talent about performing and writing for it,” said Kite managing director Darren Smith.

Kite say that Irish people's love for satire means the two-hour show would go down a treat, and we're inclined to agree.

Let's hope this gets picked up by a station very soon!
